RESOURCES – Family Bible Time

unnamed-1

As a mom I am finding myself looking desperately for support and resources to help me along my journey of Raising my beautiful Rice children. There are so many GREAT resources out there! I wanted to share a few favorites with you guys, in hopes it may bless you! The theme of this resource section is to help us parents find resources to facilitate conversations that lead our kids to God.

Our family bible time takes place usually in the evening time with our whole family before bed, and can look different in different seasons. But also there are many opportunities throughout the day for us to be having these conversations as the verse encourages us parents:

Deuteronomy 11:18-19

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

I want to take advantage of these opportunities and calling in my life, but to be honest I need support, I need resources to help me, and most importantly I need to be in prayer asking the Holy Spirit to guide my conversations with my kids.

Ok here are some current favorites!!! Our top 5!!

1.)  The best resource is … THE BIBLE!!! I realize if I am not in the word fixing MY heart on truth, then it is EXTREMELY hard to share that truth with my kids!

2.) Talking with Your Kids about God by Natasha Crain

Talking with your Kids About God is as an great practical book that offers a process to discuss 30 conversations that every parents should have with their kids through:

Open the Conversation
Advance the Conversation
Apply the Conversation

(these are the levels of conversation with your kiddos)

In the Introduction it says the book “is designed to equip you, the adult, with the knowledge you need to have these conversations with your kids. In other words, don’t hand this book directly to your kids-it’s not written for them! Topics include:

The Existence of God
Science and God
The Nature of God
Believing in God
The Difference God Makes

3.) Wondrous Works of God and Mighty Acts of God (sequel) written by Starr Meade

My husband and I feel like these books are deep in thought, but a good length of time. From other reviews and in our opinions it is fabulous to be able to read a family devotion FOR KIDS and not have to edit out theological errors. It also has illustrations that help understanding for my younger children as well.

While there is not a specified age range for this book, a reason for using this resource for us was we felt like the young kid Bible stories are important yet can at times limit understanding of the whole story, these books are geared more for elementary age students and the “next step” from the children Bible stories, however we prefer them even at the age range of our kid currently. Our 4 year old gets the most out of the story and 3 year old can also answer simple questions, our 3 year old response to the pictures and our 1 year old drinks his milk while we read;)

4.) Wise Words for Moms by Ginger Hubbard

I know I always take about this resource, I just love it! But also it is a great resource for family bible time, or special moments of training. If there has been a day of lots of whining and complaining, Darren and I will use this resource to help guide the conversation with questions and verses, and for go our “normal” Bible time, because sometimes you just need a refocus time. Seriously moms (and dads) this resource is like 4 bucks! Totally worth it!

5.) Our Families 24 Family Ways – By Clay Clarkson and the Our 24 Family Ways Kids Color-In Book.

This is a GREAT family Bible time that works well with multiple ages, and provides the coloring book for youngers and or kinesthetic learnings. I have also used this resource to help me with Bible time during the day, it has a topic and gives you conversation and verses for 5 days.

“Our 24 Family Ways is a parent-friendly, Bible-centered family time resource that seamlessly weaves together devotional interaction with discipleship instruction for the whole family. This is a tool to train your children in the way they should go, teach them Bible truths and principles, train them in Christian character and values, and strengthen their relationship with the Lord.”

Here is what is included in the 24 family ways Devotional Guide:
